What Do You Do About Burnout?

HAVE YOU EXPERIENCED BURNOUT?

Burnout is crushing and borders on depression because you lose direction and it takes away all interest you had in what you do in life.

Burnout most often happens in career/business, when your responsibilities go crazy or you put all of your focus in one place, become a workaholic- either forced or you get obsessed. It also happens to busy moms, people in school.

IT CAN HAPPEN TO ANYONE. IT FEELS LIKE DEPRESSION-IT BRINGS ON DEPRESSED SYMPTOMS AND IF YOU SUFFER FROM THE BLUES OR CLINICAL DEPRESSION IT CAN BE A TRIGGER.

The question is, “what do I do?” There is no answer that is for everyone. I’ll share what I’m doing and a few ideas, maybe you’ll get some ideas.

recently I was in school, working as a beauty stylist and coaching people around body image. My beauty income carried me and that kept me on my feet for long hours.

School was a challenge and I had to put a lot of energy into it, I was recovering from surgery and had gotten out of my lifestyle of healthy eating and yoga on the regular.

I began to lose my mojo, it was painful. I was able to help my clients but afterward, I would cry and become paralyzed. It triggered my own depressive symptoms and I had to force myself to stay in school. There were a lot of things, I won’t go into them all. I just know I had lost all drive and sparkle.

What about you? Are you experiencing burnout?

HERE ARE A FEW THINGS DO DO TO HELP YOU GO THROUGH THIS DIFFICULT TIME.

  1. See this time as a message about what you’re doing or how you’re doing it. This is a time to let go of resistance. It may be time for a different attitude or even direction.

  2. Slow down, shift gears, and ponder your life and what you’re doing and how you’re doing it. Take breaks. journal and ask yourself what changes you can make in your own life. Sometimes tough times like this are there as a message and when you finally “get it” it will fade away and you’ll have drive again and enjoy the new direction in your life (or if you’re a mom and can’t make a dramatic change see the next tip.)

Sometimes you need to face and see the disturbing symptoms as messengers and listen and accept. Embrace them

  3. Ask for help. When my daughter was a baby I had her and her brother who was 4 1/2 years older. I was 100% overwhelmed. I cried a lot and I lost my enjoyment of motherhood. A good friend came to the rescue and offered to watch my daughter a couple of hors when my son was in school so I had time to take a breath and have a little focus on myself. I know not everyone can have that exact thing, but try asking family, friends for help. If not, then consider even an hour of preschool or a sitter so you can catch your breath. There are solutions out there.

  4. Get more sleep if you can. Our bodies and minds rejuvenate as we sleep and it’s important. There’s also a connection to weight loss. Weight gain can contribute to depressive feelings and feeling bad about yourself. Try a bedtime ritual. I have a sleep “cocktail” that combines natural (important) supplements with bedtime rituals that will 100% transform areas of your life.

  5. Consider your career and do you need to make a change? I know this is a big/tough one. I started this blog recently as a way to share my many passions to help others in a more expanded way and it’s been a magical thing. Coaching others has transformed me, and I feel I’m helping people in more profound ways. Ask yourself what you can change. Even if it means changing jobs. I know this is HUGE, but sometimes it’s important.
